Very late notice: KiwiNoWriMo [Jun. 24th, 2007|01:45 am]
Prompts for Creative Writers

I know, I've been slack, shut up.

Since you like writing, and it's holidays for you uni students, go check out kiwinowrimo. Basically, it's like the big international NaNoWriMo*, only at a different time of year, one more suitable to the task.

For those of you that don't know, National Novel Writing Month, or NAMBLA NaNoWriMo, is a month wherein one writes a novel 50,000 words in 31 days. (That's just over 1,600 words a day! Peanuts!) The novel will suck. It will suck hard. But afterwards, you will be able to say that you've written a novel, and that you did it in a month. How cool is that?

I'm actually telling you this really late, though. See, it starts on Monday 25th June at 00:00 and goes till the 25th of July at 24:00. But I only really made the decision to do it today. And then it occurred to me that you lot would like to play as well. Because I enjoy recruiting people for things that will torture them horribly be really fun.

Now, at the end of week two when you want to die, you can't blame me. Blame starfirenz. It's her fault I know KiwiNoWriMo exists; I followed a link from her journal. :D **hides**

Sorry for the late notice. Oh, and you don't need to have a character or plot prepared. Apparently, it's more fun if you don't.

*I am aware of the discrepancy here: "international national"? The organizers, too, are aware of it. But NaNoWriMo sounds cool, so NaNoWriMo it is. What, you expected something more mature from people who thought up this mad idea?

Hello, I found sophie's community and had the need to do some writing today.
I apologise in advance for how pretentious it is.

Title: Escape (one of the prompts listed below).
Rating: I'd say mature. Bad language, references to drugs and sex (but not like a bad action movie).
Critique away. Except for my grammar, because a) It's good enough and b) I don't care.

Okay, we need some prompts. So, randomly off the top of my head:
Tie a knot in your pyjamas
Barren wasteland
Endless Scream (I had a pog called the endless scream. I liked it because it was one of those cool red-glow ones. It was spesh.)

Okay! Go forth and be prompted!

[emotion |guiltyguilty]

Hey all. I know I've been neglecting the comm, but I really need to write more often so I'm going to try to remember that it's here. I'm going to post prompts more often, whether or not anybody posts a piece based on them, because I personally need to write more. I'd love it if you guys started posting your own prompts as well - you're very welcome to do so.

Even if you use a prompt don't feel as if you have to post the results. Often competitions or publications won't accept anything published previously, and LJ can be counted as a form of publication, as I've said before. (Basically, anything I post here I don't consider good enough to offer to a publication ~_^)  So, even if I'm the only one posting here, I'm going to keep doing it, simply because I'm lazy and I'll slack off if I don't keep myself doing something.

Feel free also to post any writing exercises you come across. Writing exercises are terribly useful, despite no actual prose coming of them. I know I'd be eager to do some. And now I'm babbling. Ta ta!

Prompt 2 [Nov. 30th, 2006|02:44 pm]
Prompts for Creative Writers
[emotion |boredbored]

Finally posting something due to boredom thanks to broken arm. Broken arm means that this is also a very short post, as it takes too long to type with my left hand.

Title: The Invitation

Rating: Very G

Critique: Given my enforced boredom due breaking my arm, anything would be appreciated to take the edge off the boredom.

I'm not particularly happy with this, but it's late and I wanted to make use of a perfectly decent prompt. I'm developing a bit of an obsession about contraction use and its various effects, and prose is not my usual medium, so watch out for some seriously messy construction and irregular rhythms.

title: the invitation
rating: jeez, not even worth a g.
critique: i am tired. see disclaimer below. but seriously, whatever. critique doesn't bother me when it's not something I've worked on.

disclaimer: proof-reading is for people who care. i like alliteration. and you.

Prompt #2 response [Oct. 22nd, 2006|12:44 am]
Prompts for Creative Writers

Title: Wish you were here
Rating: G
Warnings: Crappy story. It's shit and suckful and I don't like it.
Desired critique: Keep it to a sentence. And don't tell me it sucked because I know it sucked.

"Come Maiden," said the rabbit

I can randomly quote Corpses if I wanna.

Prompt #2 [Oct. 15th, 2006|11:08 pm]
Prompts for Creative Writers

[emotion |tiredtired]

Hey guys!

Time for Prompt #2!
I'm feeling particularly uncreative as far as prompts go, and in need of one myself, so I asked my mate Karen for an idea. Being the creature of wisdom that she so clearly is, she suggested

The Invitation

...which seemed like a good idea to me, so that's what we're going with. I hope you find something to work with.
Happy creating!

Prompt 1 [Oct. 4th, 2006|01:18 am]
Prompts for Creative Writers
[Current Location |Desk]
[emotion |blahblah]

Title: Fitful firelight
Rating: PG for some swearing
Warnings: Pixies
Critique: I'm easy, whatever you can be bothered with.

So I went and read the poem, and this was the line that grabbed me... and somehow I ended up writing this. I realise the ending is weak, but it was either this or sending them to fairyland, and that would take hours. And I have to sleep sometime.
